Screening Ultrasound
Screening Ultrasound
During a screening ultrasound, a wand sends sound waves (not radiation) to your breasts to make images called sonograms. Whole-breast screening ultrasound (WBUS) may be recommended along with a screening mammogram for people with dense breast tissue. A screening ultrasound does not replace mammography. It is performed in addition to mammography.
WBUS can be performed by an automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) or by a technologist using hand-held breast ultrasound (HHUS). A breast radiologist will decide which method to use.
