High-Risk Biopsies

High-Risk Biopsies

High-risk benign (not cancerous) breast abnormalities may increase your risk for developing cancer in the future. If you have a high-risk benign tumor or lesion, you may need to have it removed with surgery.

Types of high-risk benign biopsy results include:

  • Atypical ductal hyperplasia
  • Atypical lobular hyperplasia
  • Lobular carcinoma in situ, which is a type of abnormal cellular growth in the lobules (glands that make milk).
  • Radial scars, which are abnormal growths that look like scar tissue.
  • Complex sclerosing lesion, an abnormal growth of ducts and glands around a central scar, even if you have not had surgery or trauma to your breast.

You may need to have your high-risk benign growth removed with surgery. However, you may not need more treatment. In those cases, you and your care team may only need to monitor your health over time.

Your 华体会 team will work with you to create a care plan that fits your needs.
