When To See Your Physician

Your breasts may change from hormones during a menstrual cycle or pregnancy. Symptoms can include swelling, tenderness and changes in the way your breasts feel.

You know your breasts best. You should be aware of what’s normal for you each month so that you can tell your physician about any changes.

Talk to your physician if:

  • You have breast pain that does not go away, including after your menstrual cycle.
  • You have breast pain that gets in the way of daily tasks.
  • You have abnormal nipple discharge.
  • You feel a new lump in one of your breasts.
  • Your breast skin appears different, including puckered, crusty or dimply.
  • You have tenderness in your armpits.
